Let's build a roller coaster!
You and your team will create a roller coaster. Your coaster must have at least one hill and a loop. Your "passenger" will be a marble. The marble cannot fall off the track or run off the end. You will demo your coaster for the class at the end of Monday. Ms. Gentry will award extra credit to the fastest roller coaster.
Roles:
1. Builder
--Constructs the roller coaster from the foam
--Tests the roller coaster with a marble
2. Engineer
--Creates a roller coaster plan with input from team
--Creates a design drawing with measurements
3. Recorder
--Writes down the results of the tests
--Summarize the changes that are made and their effects
4. Researcher
--Finds out the energy that is involved
--Finds out why the roller coaster is working or not working
The BUILDER and ENGINEER will work together to create a design plan and build the roller coaster. The design plan must include the measurements of each piece in centimeters.
The RECORDER and RESEARCHER will work together to write a report to turn in. The report must be a half typed page (at least). It MUST include the energy involved, using the words: gravity, potential energy, kinetic energy, energy transfer, and conservation of energy.
